Lights On Threads
Project type
Series, Monography
Location
Vietnam
This photographic series is a visual study on colour, light, and repetition. Set in the quiet intimacy of Vietnamese homes, I photographed women repairing vibrant yellow fishing nets - a daily, humble act rendered almost sacred by light., This series explores how the same subject - revisited under different natural light conditions and photographed from different angles and positions - can evoke a wide range of emotional tones and visual textures. I played with light entering from the sides and front of a small covered outdoor space, similar to a veranda, to illuminate the fabric like brushstrokes on a canvas, reminiscent of a Caravaggio painting., Though the images appear visually similar, that repetition is intentional. It invites the viewer to look closer - beyond subject and gesture - to the subtle shifts in luminosity, perspective and the chromatic intensity of yellow. The aim was to create a near-synesthetic experience, where colour and texture stir sensations beyond the visual - echoing touch, warmth and memory. This is an exploration of atmosphere, perception, and the painterly potential of photography.
